Calling All Actors! Open Auditions for the Rocky Horror Show

CALLING ALL ACTORS! OPEN AUDITIONS FOR THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW
Open call scheduled for Wednesday, July 27, and Thursday, July 28, 2022

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (July 22, 2022) — Aurora Arts Theatre is giving local talent the opportunity to be part of its production of Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show.

The auditions, which are open to anyone 17+ in the community, are Wednesday, July 27, and Thursday, July 28, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at AAT, located at 5635 Everhart Road in Corpus Christi. No formal experience is required.

AAT will be holding auditions for all roles which include Frank-N-Furter, Janet, Brad, Magenta, Rocky, Riff Raff, Columbia, Eddie, The Narrator, and Phantoms. Those planning to try out should be prepared to sing a selection from the show, perform readings selected by the director, and learn a short dance directed by the show’s choreographer. All necessary items will be provided onsite for the audition and comfortable clothing is recommended for the dance portion of the audition. Those auditioning should plan to arrive at least 15 minutes early to fill out an audition form.

The cult classic is the story of innocent Brad and Janet, finding themselves seeking shelter at a mysterious old castle on a dark and stormy night where they encounter transvestite scientist Frank-N-Furter, his “perfect” creation Rocky, and an assortment of other crazy creatures.

The AAT production team is led by director Laurie Guajardo who recently directed the AAT production of Our Lady of the Tortilla. Joining her will be choreographer Sarah Juarez, vocal director Peter Lopez, and as always we will use a live band under the direction of Tanya Stegall.

The Rocky Horror Show will run Sept. 16–Oct. 31, with two performances each weekend in September: Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., and October with three performances each weekend: Friday’s at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday’s at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m.

“We’re excited to bring back this annual tradition to the Coastal Bend,” said Dylan Rios, marketing director for Aurora Arts Theater. “The Rocky Horror Show has been performed every year since 2010, with the exception of 2020 due to the pandemic. Last year, all shows in the seven-week run sold out the first weekend. We invite everyone to come up to the lab, and audition for this fun and energetic musical.”

Tickets are $20 for all shows and can be purchased beginning July 28 online at auroraartstheatre.com, through the theatre box office at 5635 Everhart Road in Corpus Christi, or by calling (361) 851-9700. Box office hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m.–3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Patrons requiring special accommodations are urged to notify the Box Office at least two weeks in advance.
