Corpus Christi, TX - The Aurora Arts Theatre is excited to announce its first production of 2022, Our Lady of the Tortilla, opening Friday, January 25, 2022.
“The cast and crew have completely dedicated themselves to bringing the Cruz family to life and showing us that hard times are inevitable but so are family, faith and “funny”, “said Director Laurie Guajardo. “It’s a huge responsibility, now more than ever, for our entire production team to set the tone of the year to come and what better way to do it than with a comedy.”
The play is set in a day in the life of the Cruz family. The central focus is on two pairs of siblings who are polar opposites. The devout catholic Dolores Cantú is selfless while sister Dahlia Cruz is a fiery woman trying to win back the heart of her estranged husband, Pancho. While visiting from college, Dahlia’s son Nelson wants to hide every embarrassing aspect of his culture from his girlfriend, Beverly Barnes, including his loud-and-proud, flirtatious brother Eddy. All hell breaks loose when Dolores sees the Virgin Mary in a tortilla she’s making, unraveling all the Catholic superstition Nelson is trying to keep from the woman he wants to marry. The comedy shows the unshakable bond of family and the healing powers of love and faith.
Face coverings are recommended and complimentary masks will be available upon entry. The theatre is throughly disinfected between each use.
